Great fun at the kids race!

With just a few days to go to the 6th Mull of Kintyre Half Marathon and 10k races we thought we would send you a quick update of events over the weekend and take the opportunity to wish you all the very best of luck this weekend!  Below you will find a brief update - enjoy and good luck!


Saturday 28th May 11.00am, Westport Beach, Campbeltown - New FREE EVENT for 2011!!
Please note you do NOT need to be an entrant in Sunday's race to run in the Friendship Run!
Warm up for the Mull of Kintyre Half Marathon and 10k by attending the first Friendship Run.

On Saturday 28 May we are hosting the first “Friendship Run” along the sandy beach from Westport to Machrihanish. The distance is about 3 miles and is intended to be a fun run/ warm up and a chance for runners to stretch their legs, meet others who will be taking part in the MOKRUN races and generally catch the race vibe !

A free bus will take participants to Westport Beach and collect them from Machrihanish after the run.

The bus will leave from the Aqualibrium in Campbeltown at 1030 am and the run will start from Westport Beach car park at around 11 am. The run should take less than an hour in total. Refreshments will be served at Machrihanish after the run. The bus will return to Campbeltown, with an estimated return time of 1pm.

The Friendship Run is open to everyone, young and old, and whether or not entered in the main MOKRUN races.

MOKRUN are pleased to announce that world adventurer Rosie Swale-Pope will be giving a free talk.

‘‘Rosie Swale-Pope’s epic ‘Little Run Around the World’, apart from being the longest unsupported run in world history, is undoubtedly one of the most astounding, inspiring and life impacting feats of human endurance ever undertaken’ Blind Adventurer Miles Hilton-Barber

As you can see, Rosie is truly an awe inspiring individual, and MOKRUN feel privileged to have Rosie tell her story, not to mention taking part in the 10K race pulling none other than Icebird!

Saturday 28th May - Pasta Party, Mussel Ebb Bistro, approx 6pm - after Rosie Swale-Pope's talk
The pasta party takes place after Rosie Swale-Pope's talk. The ideal fuel food for runners!
You can buy tickets for the Pasta Party and Ceilidh when you enter using the entry form. Or subject to availability, tickets can be purchased for £9 by emailing

Sunday 29th May - MOKRUN Celiidh, Victoria Hall, 7.30pm - Please note new format for 2011
7.30pm - Ceilidh - Victoria Hall, Campbeltown  - NOW FULL - No tickets left!!

Please note for 2011 the MOKRUN after race Ceilidh has a new format with the doors opening at 7.30pm this year and this event will be a real Scottish Ceilidh!  Doors close at 9.30pm sharp so please arrive early if you wish a seat.  Please note any person under 18 MUST be accompanied by an adult. 

Local DJ Jamie G will start the night at 7.30pm with some tunes before the Ceann Loch Ceilidh Band get you on the floor.  The evening will also include a performance from the Sound of Kintyre Pipe Band.

Please remember there will be no admittance after 9.30pm so please do come early.

Other things to do over the weekend  
Friday 27th – Sunday 29th May:  FREE Swim and Showers, Aqualibrium, Kinloch Road  

Participants in MOKRUN can have free use of the swimming facilities of the Aqualibrium over race weekend.  In addition, the Aqualibrium will be open from 8am on race day to use toilets and changing facilities.  Showers will also be available immediately after the race.  Runners must show their race number at reception

 

Friday 27th – Sunday 29th May - Kintyre Songwriters Festival  
The 2011 Kintyre Songwriters Festival returns to the White Hart Hotel in Campbeltown on the May Holiday Weekend (27th/28th/29th) on what promises to be a very busy weekend for the town. The Songwriters Festival was inaugurated in 2008 in tribute to local musician the late Kenneth Gilchrist who created the concept and began the organisation.  For more information visit their website by clicking here

Mull of Kintyre Seatours  
During the Half Marathon weekend, Mull of Kintyre Seatours will be running fast rib trips from Campbeltown to watch wildlife (including seals and puffins) around the Mull of Kintyre. Fur further information and specific trip times visit their website at www.mull-of-kintyre.co.uk

For 2011!  Mull of Kintyre Seatours will be operating all over the Run Weekend and are offering a 25% discount to any competitors who comes out on the boat - visits to Sanda Island to see the puffins and other wildlife will be the main event on offer.

Saturday 28th May - Springbank Distillery Tasting Tour, 1pm  
Springbank Distillery will be offering their famous distillery tasting tour at a discounted rate of £5 to MOKRUN participants at 1pm on Saturday 28th May.  For more information or to book, please contact Springbank direct on 01586 551710.

Saturday 28th May - Heritage Trail, 2.30pm  

A historic tour of Campbeltown will take place this Saturday (28th May).

The tour is completely free and will be taken by a local guide who will provide you with a brief history of the town centre, its rich heritage, its people and its stories.

The tour will leave Campbeltown Tourist Information Centre at 2.30pm and is open to everyone.

SUNDAY 29TH MAY – MOKRUN 10K AND 1/2 MARATHON 2011

08:15   Check-in opens for all competitors including kid’s fun run at the REGISTRATION MARQUEE at the finish area, next to the War Memorial on the Esplanade.  You must sign in and collect your chip timing to take part in the race.

 Changing facilities and toilets are available in the Aqualibrium, Kinloch Road, Campbeltown PA28 6EG (100m from start/finish area), but please arrive ready to run if possible.  Please arrive in plenty of time.  There will also be portaloo toilets behind the registration marquee.

09:30  Information meeting for ALL marshals in the Victoria Hall.  Please bring a mobile phone.

09:45  Latest time for adult competitors to check-in.

10:10   Mass warm up on the green with Fiona Irwin, Jog Scotland Leader

10:20  Compulsory Race Briefing for all entrants on the green at Finish Area

10:25  All entrants move round to START AREA led by Kintyre Schools Beginners Pipe Band

10:30 Rosie Swale-Pope starts both races

10:30 Stalls, food & drink vendors for spectators at Finish Area including the Funky Chicken

11:03 10k winner expected at the FINISH on the ESPLANADE

11:05 Refreshment marquee for finishers & marshals opens (next to Finish Area).

Complimentary tea/coffee, sandwiches and danish pastries available for all entrants and

marshals.  In addition, there will be many stalls, entertainment and FREE sports massages.

11:30  Latest time for Junior Fun Run entrants collect race numbers from Registration Marquee

11:40  Half Marathon winner expected

12:00   11 – 14 year olds’ Junior Fun Run (2k) 

12:20  6 – 10 year olds’ Junior Fun Run (1k)

13:00  Prizegiving Ceremony at finish area (all entrants eligible for fantastic spot prizes from Wee Toon Sports!)

SUNDAY 29TH MAY – Kids Festival 10am - 4pm  
There's also a kids festival at the Aqualibrium (next to the finishing line) on Sunday running from 10.00am to 4pm featuring kids races, picnic time and a kids music jam with some of the musicians from the weekend's Kintyre Songwriters Festival featuring!
