The Mull of Kintyre Half Marathon
and 10k Committee is urging local businesses to
get into the spirit of this year's race
celebrations.
The popularity of the race is
growing year on year, with a massive 750
entrants signed up for this year's event. As a
result, the committee is encouraging local
traders to decorate their windows with a
running/sports theme and to open for business on
the race day itself - Sunday 29th May 2011.
Town Centre Manager, Aileen MacLennan, said:
"The Mull of Kintyre Half Marathon and 10k is
growing in popularity every year, with the Half
Marathon having just been voted number one in
Runners World Magazine's 2010 Ultimate Race
Guide.
"The event brings hundreds of visitors from
throughout the UK into the town centre, many of
whom have never been to Scotland before. The
traders in Campbeltown are always very
supportive of any local events which are held
and it would be great if they could show their
support for this event by making an exception
and opening on the Sunday of the race.
"I understand too that doing a window display is
no easy task but it would be great if we could
show these visitors the community spirit we have
here in Campbeltown by doing some sort of
decoration to celebrate the day."
Race Director Elaine McGeachy said: "We
understand that this may create additional work
for traders but we would really appreciate the
support and hope that it will encourage more
trade for local businesses". |

6th January 2011
- Runners World published their 2010
Ultimate Race Guide in their February edition and the
Mull of Kintyre Half Marathon was number 1 in the UK!
RW - "It was good enough for Paul McCartney and
Wings, so it's surely a perfect setting for a race. The
lure of this weekend-long festival of racing lies in the
overall event experience as much as the race itself.
Sure, the flat route along Campbeltown Loch and Westport
Beach is a feast for the eyes, but how many races do you
know that offer a post-race ceilidh and a song-writing
festival?"
This year RW in their annual review of races as well as
being guided by participants votes online they've
categorised the top-rated races.
Mull of Kintyre Half Marathon was voted top Half
Marathon in the UK along with being No 1 for Atmosphere
and No 1 for beginners!
RW "The finish area has a positive carnivalesque
atmosphere with everything from whisky-tasting for the
grown-ups to face painting and a milk bar for the kids.
And everybody's invited to swing a (tired) leg at the
post-race ceilidh."
"This race makes it into the beginner category for much
of the same reasons as it made it into the atmosphere
and half-marathon top 10 - it's just a race that's
really good fun to run, the vibe is friendly and the
scenery is enough to distract from any fatigue."
Entries for the 2011 race are filling up quickly too so
if you have not entered yet you better get off your
marks quick. You can enter on-line at

Chris Moon Talk

Chris Moon walks the
talk. He's survived kidnap, threatened execution, being blown
up, losing his limbs and most of his blood. He ran a marathon
less than a year after leaving hospital, tested artificial limbs
to new limits, run most of the world's toughest ultra distance
races, climbed mountains, crossed countries on foot, written
books and most importantly used his experience to understand and
illustrate the process of achievement. He speaks with humour and
passion and has inspired people around the world.
And now he's coming to Campbeltown on the eve of MOKRUN 2010, to
gave an inspirational talk to runners in the Argyll Hotel on
Saturday 29 May at 5.00pm.

- The MOKRUN committee are delighted that so
many participants both local and from around the
world have entered this year's race making it
completely full at 650 entrants before the end
of February. No more entrants can now be taken
and we cannot operate a reserve list. We would

8th January 2010
- MOKRUN has achieved an incredible 4 years in a
row as the most popular race in Scotland, as
voted on by readers of Runners World -
http://www.runnersworld.co.uk.
While the published categories have changed year
on year, MOKRUN has consistently been at the top
for Scotland in at least one.
And this year in 2009, MOKRUN was just beaten
into second place overall for the whole of the
UK. In terms of Atmosphere, MOKRUN was rated 4th
best in the UK, just behind the London Marathon
and the Great North Run - both of which have
tens of thousands of runners and full time
professional organising teams.
MOKRUN was also voted second top for Beginners
in the whole UK, with only the London Marathon
being voted better!
A huge amount of community support makes the
MOKRUN weekend unique, combined with year-round
hard work from the organising committee.
The MOKRUN committee is very proud of what's
been achieved, and very grateful for all the
ongoing support from sponsors, supporters and
helpers, as well as the dozens of locals who
line the route cheering on the runners.
