Junior Races

Junior races take place on Kinloch Green, adjacent to the Aqualibrium Leisure Centre at 2pm on the Saturday of race weekend. 

There are 5 race categories :

500 Metres - Age 5-6
500 Metres - Age 7-8
1km - Age 9-10
1.5km​- Age 11-12
2km - Age 13-14

 Prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd runners in each age category for both male and female runners.  All entrants will receive a goody bag, medal and t-shirt.

10km

The 10k route is mainly flat, and on road and pavements.  Signs & Marshals will direct runners throughout the course. 

There are 3 water stops on the course.

  • Start on Esplanade, near the War Memorial,
  • Run through bus lane and turn right on to Kinloch Road and Aqualibrium Avenue,
  • Turn right at the Dellwood Hotel and straight along High Street,
  • Continue along Low Askomil to Trench Point checkpoint,
  • Turn back along Low Askomil and down North Shore Street onto esplanade,
  • Continue along esplanade turning slightly left after the Pier along Hall Street past cinema,
  • Continue straight along Lochside walkway and up onto Kilkerran Road,
  • Carry on down Kilkerran Road past cemetery to checkpoint,
  • Return along Kilkerran Road and turn left onto Woodlands Road and along Limecraigs Road,
  • Continue straight over onto Meadows Avenue,
  • Turn right at the end of Meadows onto Tomaig Road,
  •  Turn right onto Witchburn Road,
  • Continue down the Big Kiln and turn left to go down Main Street,
  • Turn left at the bottom of Main Street by the Royal Hotel to finish on the esplanade.

Half Marathon

The Half-Marathon route is mostly flat with a slow incline as the race leaves town in miles 2 and 3.  The A83 from Campbeltown to the Craigs’ Farm is a busy road but will be well marshalled.  Please follow instructions and cross as directed.
The section from beyond Clochkeil Farm to the beach (approx 1,000m) crosses the Machrihanish Dunes golf course. Marshals and signs will highlight the route but extra care should be taken here.  This section is run in reverse coming off the beach.  Beach conditions can vary.  Marshals & Coastguard 4x4 vehicle will be present  and will mark out the best route. The section on the beach is approximately 1 mile. 
There are 4 water stops on the half marathon route.
  • Start with 10k race at War Memorial,
  • Run through bus lane and turn right on to Kinloch Road and Aqualibrium Avenue,
  • Continue straight up the West Road (A83) to the Craigs’ Farm (nb 10k will turn right),
  • Turn left out past the Rhoin, Sound of Kintyre and Clochkeil.  Then follow track onto beach,
  • Run along beach to turning point,
  • Turn back along the beach and exit back up the same track back to Clockeil,
  • Return past the Sound of Kintyre and turn right onto the Moss Road,
  • Carry on the Moss Road passing Campbeltown Airport and turn left at end towards Stewarton and Campbeltown,
  • Continue into Campbeltown down the Big Kiln and turn left into Main Street,
  • Turn left at the bottom of Main Street by the Royal Hotel to finish on the esplanade at War Memorial.

EVENT INFORMATION

​The Mull of Kintyre Half Marathon and 10k is a Scottish Athletics permitted race.  Competitors enter under UK Athletics rules for competition.

 Age categories are as follows:  
 
Junior 15-17 (10k only) 
Senior Men 18 - 39 
Senior Women 18 - 39
Veteran Men 40 - 49 
Veteran Women 40 - 49 
Super Veteran Men 50+ 
Super Veteran Women 50+
Vintage Male 60+
Vintage Female 60+

Prizes 
 1st, 2nd and 3rd overall for both races men and women 
First veteran (*) both races men and women 
First senior (*) both races men and women 
First junior (*) men and women 
First local (**) for both races men and women 
First Super Veteran (*) both men and women 
First Vintage (*)both men and women

* Not in overall 1st, 2nd or 3rd place. 
** Address in South Kintyre

The prizes are awarded in accordance with UK Athletics Rules with the winner being individual in the specified age category  with the fastest gun to chip time i.e.the first in the specified age category to cross the finish line wins the prize

Post-Run Ceilidh

South Kintyre Sports Council will once again host the ever popular post-race MOKRUN Ceilidh.  The Ceilidh is held in the Victoria Hall from 7.30pm on the Sunday evening of the race.  Headlining this fantastic event is Ceol-On-Aire along with Jamie G Discos and local pipers.  A night not to be missed.
